Meal Serving Protocol

Serving a meal is not just about putting food on a plate. It's about making the food appealing so the boys will actually eat it.

Finishing Touches Matter:

FoodFinishing Touches
VegetablesAdd butter and a pinch of salt before serving
ChickenEnsure it's warm throughout; add sauce if dry
PastaToss with butter or olive oil; add fresh parmesan
SteakLet rest, slice against the grain, season with salt
All proteinsCheck temperature—food should be hot, not lukewarm

Presentation Matters:

  • Plate the food nicely. Don't dump it on the plate.
  • Use real plates and utensils. Not paper plates unless we're outside.
  • Serve appropriate portions. Not too much or too little.
  • Make it colorful. The vegetable adds color—use it.

If the Boys Reject Food

Rejection is not an automatic pass to order takeout. Your job is to problem-solve:

StepWhat to Do
1. Ask why"What don't you like about it?"
2. Offer solutionsAdd ketchup, ranch, cheese, or a sauce they like
3. Adjust presentationCut it differently, serve it in a fun bowl
4. Offer a kitchen alternativeA simple backup like a quesadilla or PB&J—NOT takeout
5. Hold the lineThey don't have to eat everything, but they need to try it

Do NOT:

  • Give up immediately and order takeout
  • Leave Mom to deal with the problem while you go get food for yourself
  • Reward rejection with a "better" option

Takeout Policy:

  • Takeout is only on designated takeout nights (currently Wednesday for sushi)
  • Unplanned takeout requires Mom's approval before ordering
  • Personal food runs during work hours are not permitted
